Meet Carrie Barton

ACTRESS | PRODUCER | WRITER

I remember the precise moment I decided what I was going to be when I grew up. I was almost 13 years old. It was my first day back in the gym training with my team. A month earlier I had sustained an injury on the balance beam as I was preparing for the big qualifying meet to become a Junior Elite gymnast. This particular day we had already trained the bars, floor and beam. Last was the vault.

As I was awaiting my next turn I sat there in my red tank top leotard. I felt the cold aluminum folding chair on the backs of my legs, smelled that undeniable combination of dried sweat and gym chalk all over my body and the faint aroma of Right Guard deodorant. That was my Daddy’s deodorant. I always used it because I loved the way it smelled on him.

I looked down the runway at the vault - then at my teammates in their chairs. I looked at the vault again, and little me had an epiphany. I said to myself, “Self, I do not think I’m going to win a gold medal at the Olympics anymore…….I’m becoming an actress.”  That was it. I made up my mind. I was going to be a professional actress. Within one month I was completely out of the gym and enrolled in my first acting class.

Shortly thereafter, I auditioned for the musical Gypsy. What a perfect summer project for me. That’s when the acting bug bit me hard. To this day Gypsy is still one of my favorite shows. I then segued into film, television and voice-over as I was graduating from high school and preparing for college.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater from Rollins College where I gained invaluable experience both on the main stage and the secondary stage enjoying leads in over a dozen plays and musicals during my four years there.

Then I moved to NYC and studied at Circle in the Square. To make ends meet, I was a bartender at night and a shoe model during the day. One job I even got to wear Marilyn Monroe’s black patent leather pumps! Wow. That was surreal.

In the audiobook world I recently narrated a four book series called The Big House. It’s a wonderful historical fiction set in the south. Other titles I’ve voiced are in the children’s genre, comedy, romance and non-fiction.

When I’m not on set, stage or behind the microphone, you can see me over the golf ball striving for more pars and birdies. I am also the founder of The Too Much Fun Club, a club I created many years ago with the main goal being to have FUN! It mostly involves travel, but any fun will do! As of 2023, my little club has ventured from Boston to Bora Bora, Amsterdam to Aruba and Paris to Puerto Vallarta. We’ve eaten incredible meals paired with some really fine wines and spirits. And one of my faves: remember game one of the 1988 World Series, LA Dodgers vs Oakland A’s when Kirk Gibson hit the home run? I was there. In Dodger Stadium on the 3rd base line. Fun and exciting times!

I am active with dog rescue and practically all my babies have come from those amazing organizations. Some of our favorite pastimes are long walks, sunbathing and golf cart rides.

I love expressing myself not only as an actress but also as a producer and writer. This industry has its highs and lows, stuck landings and twisties, exhilarations and agonies. And I remain a loyal and humble servant to the talent that chose me as its vessel.
